The Story Behind Re-Route: How a Small Sensory Hack Turned Into a Brand

Image

I want to share the story behind Re-Route, how it started, what I was looking for when I started building it, and how a small, unexpected discovery turned into a brand.

Where It Started

In 2020, I lost my dad. The years after were some of the hardest of my life. Everyday things driving, errands, being in crowded spaces, became overwhelming in ways I hadn't experienced before. I went through a long period of trying to figure out what helped me get through hard moments and what didn't.

A lot of things were part of that process: time, support, the slow work of facing the things I'd been avoiding. None of it was quick, and none of it was one single thing.

But somewhere along the way, I discovered something small that helped me feel more prepared on hard days. And it surprised me.

The Unexpected Discovery

It was sour candy.

Not as a fix. Not as a solution. Just as a small, intense sensory experience I could keep in my bag and reach for when I wanted something to tune into. The sharpness gave me a focal point. Something simple to lean on while I did the harder work in the background.

I started keeping it with me the way some people keep gum. And the more I used it, the more I started paying attention to what I was actually putting in my body.

The Problem I Couldn't Get Past

Most sour candy on the shelves is built on artificial dyes, corn syrup, and ingredient lists I couldn't pronounce. For something I was carrying around as a small, intentional tool, the ingredients felt completely out of step with how I was trying to take care of myself.

I started imagining what it would look like if someone made a sour candy intentionally, designed from the ground up with clean ingredients, thoughtful formulation, and the kind of care you'd put into any other product in a wellness routine.

When I couldn't find it, I decided to make it.

Building Re-Route

Re-Route's Grounding Sours are everything I wished existed during those years. All-natural. Vegan. Non-GMO. Made with intentionally chosen ingredients, holy basil, L-theanine, and plant-based vitamin D from white button mushrooms.

The sour intensity is deliberate. The format is deliberate. The pocket size is deliberate.

The whole product is built on the simple idea that the small tools we carry around with us deserve to be made with the same care as anything else we use to take care of ourselves.

The Bigger Picture

I'm not in the business of promising anyone anything about how they should feel. Everyone's experience is different, and a piece of candy is never going to do the work of therapy, time, or building tolerance for the things that have felt impossible.

What I am trying to do is take the small things seriously. To treat the pocket-sized tools we reach for during the day as something worth making thoughtfully. To build a brand that respects how much it can take, sometimes, just to get through a normal day, and tries to be a small, grounded presence in someone's bag on the way through.

If you've ever kept something small in your pocket for the harder moments, you already understand what Re-Route is for.
